The real objective in the game of blackjack is not to get the best hand possible. The best hand in blackjack is one that has a value of 21. You can either get a hand value of 21 just after the dealer deals you your first two cards or after getting additional cards.

After you are dealt your first two cards, you then make your choice about your current hand. You choose whether to stick with what value your hand has, add more cards to get a higher value, and other options available in the game. We shall discuss the blackjack player decisions below.

The first blackjack player decision you'll make is to hit. This might well be the decision that you'll make the most as you learn about the game even further. If you are not satisfied with the first two cards you're dealt you have the option to get additional cards. You should get additional cards if the value of your hand is really low or like a value of 11 or below. This player decision is called a hit in blackjack.

Now, if are lucky and you get a good pair of cards that already has a good value, you can choose to keep your current value and take no other card. This player decision is called stand. You can choose to stand after you are dealt your first two cards or you may choose to stand after hitting.

The next player decision in blackjack is a combination of the first two. To double down means to hit and take only one card and then stand after the third card is given. This move is called double down for the fact that you will also have to double your present wager. You can only double down after getting your first two cards. Our next option in the game is to split your hand. This means to separate the two cards that were dealt to you by your dealer. You are only allowed to take this option if you are dealt a couple of cards that have equal value. There are pairs in blackjack that should always be split and there are pairs that don't have to. The last player decision in blackjack is surrender. Taking the meaning behind the word, you are giving up half of your bet without making any other decision. Depending on the casino, you may or may not be allowed to surrender.
